Making A Name For Yourself

As writers most of us want others to read our stuff. Unfortunately for me and many other aspiring writers, we aren't published. So, how do you make a name for yourself before you get published?

It's simple really...
  1. Join a local writers group and online writing communities. There are free ones for those of us who haven't been published and professional groups who collect dues for those of us who are published. How does this help? It gets your name out among your peers. Most writers read, so if they recognize your name they are apt to buy your book when you get published.
  2. Visit other peoples blogs and leave comments. This will help get your name out there.
  3. Write articles for magazines, ezines and to offer as freebies for those who register for your blog. Articles can be stored on the web for anyone to use.
  4. Post your picture (a recent, professional picture) on your blog or website so that others will recognize you.

I hope these simple steps help you to get started on making a name for yourself. Good luck and good writing to you!

Some good thoughts here. It's so disheartening to be rejected, isn't it? I know of an author whose book has been rejected so many times she's holding a funeral for it! Mary Patrick Kavanaugh wrote a book called "Family Plots." Publishing houses rejected it numerous, numerous times so she's "burying it," so to speak. For all authors/writers who have been chewed up and spit out, this is the site for you.
