Put One Foot in Front of the Other...

That is what writing is like. At first we take tentative's steps while holding on to something or someone and then we venture off by ourselves. Though with writing we eventually realize that we have more fun when we walk arm in arm with others or share our work with others. Yes, this can be scary, but if we don't share then we are truly only writing for ourselves and where is the fun in that?

I know many writers say they write for themselves... This is true in many ways, but why then do we share our work? I think we need the feedback that helps make us better. We need the kudos from a good job done well. Most of all what is a story if it is never read or heard?

So, I say keep taking those baby steps. Then try joining a critique group or writing group so you can share your work with others going through the same process. Go to readings and share your stories. Finally, seek a wider audiance once you feel your work is tightened up ---> Seek to get published.

Soon you'll be walking out the door...
