I like that phrase. Sometimes, for me, that's what my story ideas do before I can ever put them on paper. Other times an idea strikes and I can turn a story out in no time. Note these are usually flash fiction. I think the longer stories need to stew a bit in my brain. Or is my brain stewing?
The other day, while watching television, possibly True Blood, a picture popped into my mind. It made me say "Oh!" causing my niece to give me a funny look. I explained that the next John Dunham's Diary story idea had just popped into my mind. WooHoo. I managed to get that idea on paper, but that's about it so far. I think it's time for the story to stew...
Given the fact that I almost live and breath John, I think that is good. His entire story is waiting to be written, but there is too much to go into one novel.
I love reading series, because I am never willing to let go of the characters that I have lived with for the time it took me to read the book. So, I am thrilled that John's story doesn't want to end with the first one. Yes, I know John gave birth in Twilight Dance, but that story may never see the light of day.

Usually, I have a sentence or a picture in my head and have to write something to get it out of there. Usually I don't know what will happen/has happened, and discover everything while writing.
The protagonist for my next novel, however, has been nagging me for quite some time, but I want to finish the current project first. Maybe in a month I will have time to properly listen to her...
Those pesky characters have ways of making themselves known even at inconvenient times. Good luck, Diandra
